In this week’s article I am going to write about something that is close to my heart. I feel that I have a platform to speak about an issue that once again hits close to home. Last Friday my wife received a call from my oldest daughter’s best friend. At this time she had been in the hospital for eight days for her appendix and when the doctors ran some tests they found out that she has Cancer.
Next month will be four years since I lost my mother to leukemia. As I heard the news about my daughter’s friend my heart broke as she is only 17 years old. All the thoughts and feeling came back to me as I remember all that my mother went through with chemotherapy. I remember the way her body reacted to the treatment, the way she lost her hair and how she did not want to eat for days. If by any chance you do not know what Cancer is :
the disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body.”he’s got cancer”
a malignant growth or tumor resulting from the division of abnormal cells.
plural noun: cancers.
The reason for me writing this article is not to look for personal donations or for pity. I am writing this article because the one thing I have learned is that doctors have learn so much through research about cancer, but they are not close to finding a cure. They are able to find out what type of cancer people have but they have no idea how to cure them. We all know someone or know someone who knows someone who has cancer. This affects all of us one way or another. Early detection is always a plus but we all need to help fund research companies. Let us not stand on the side lines and let people die. We should also donate to help fund research. Lets give all kids and adults with cancer a fighting chance.
Cancer does not discriminate nor does it single anyone out. I have known many people who have never smoked or had an alcoholic beverage in their lives and yet cancer has taken their lives. The one thing I do know for sure is that we all have the ability to help out. I am not asking for personal donations I am asking that we all at least take a look at some of the charities and foundations that help find some sort of cancer solution or cure. “The American Cancer Society” helps fund lifesaving research http://www.cancer.org/index. “Stand up 2 Cancer” the End of Cancer Begins http://www.standup2cancer.org/. Take a look and if you can- donate to help funding research for a cure. Please do not be like me who waited for my mother to go through cancer to get involved. Trust me if I could do more I would. I am willing to do work for any of these charities for free to pass the word and keep funding alive.
