FOR AUGUST 6, 2016 EVENT

ME
ME AND MICKEY RIVERS

John Milton “Mickey” Rivers (born October 31, 1948) is an American former baseball player who played in the Major Leagues. Rivers was dealt to the Yankees in the 1975-76 off-season for Bobby bonds, a trade which immediately paid dividends for the Yankees. While Rivers played for them, the Yankees won the World Series in 1977 and 1978, both times against the Los Angeles Dodgers.Rivers posted a .308 average in his 29 postseason games.

Patrick Franklin Kelly (born October 14, 1967 in Philadelphia).  He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the ninth round of the 1988 Amateur Draft. He made his debut in the major league May 20, 1991 at age 23.  In 1995 with the Yankees battling for the AL Wild Card, Kelly hit a crucial 2 run home run in the 9th inning against the Blue Jays in Toronto to cap a Yankee rally from a 3-0 deficit in the 3rd to last game of the season. Thanks to Kelly’s go-ahead home run the Yankees won the game 4-3 and were able to qualify for the playoffs 2 days later.

Joseph Anthony “Joe” Pepitone (born October 9, 1940) is a former Major League Baseball Player. During his time with the Yankees, Pepitone was thrice-named to play in the All Star Game and also won three Golden Gloves  awards.  His fame was sufficient for him to become something of a cultural icon. The 1963 and 1964 campaigns were enjoyable ones for Pepitone.  He performed well and the Yankees won the pennant both years.  Furthermore, Pepitone had the opportunity to play alongside his idol, Mickey Mantle.  Pepitone adored the veteran centerfielder to such an extent that he derived great pleasure from hearing his hero refer to him as “Pepinose,” in honor of his prominent proboscis.  The first baseman was absolutely thrilled when Mantle told a sportswriter prior to the start of the 1963 season that he expected Pepitone to be the key to the Yankees’ success that year.  Mantle suggested to the writer, “I figure we’ll win by a nose.”
